Installing Timeclock Solutions on your Network

The following instructions are provided as a starting point for installing TCS 1.2 Pro on your network. Please be aware that since network architectures vary from installation to installation, the instructions below may not have every step necessary for your particular network. Timeclock Solutions cannot plan for every network architecture.

On the machine that will be the server:
  • Install TimeclockSolutions and share the TCS system folder.
    1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the TCS folder.
    2. Select the 'system' folder, right-click and select 'Sharing...'.
    3. Select 'Share this folder...' and give the shared folder a meaningful name. The name of the share will be 'system' by default.
    4. Click the OK button.
On each client machine:
  • Install TimeclockSolutions.
  • Map a network drive to the TCS shared folder by following the steps below.
    1. Open Windows Explorer.
    2. Click Tools - Map Network Drive...
    3. Click the Browse... button and navigate to the shared folder on the server machine.
    4. Select the shared folder and click OK.
    5. Click the Finish button to complete mapping the network drive.
  • Using notepad, open the file
    C:\Program Files\TCS12\system\tcs_12.cfg
  • Modify the DatabasePath entry as follows:
  • The default DatabasePath entry will look like this:
    DatabasePath=C:\Program Files\TCS12\system\tcs_12.mdb
    Change the entry to match the path to the network drive you just mapped where G: represents the letter of the drive mapped to the TCS shared folder. Be sure to keep the database name at the end of the database path name.
    DatabasePath=G:\system\tcs_12.mdb
  • Save the changes to the configuration file.
  • Restart Timeclock Solutions.
To prevent unwanted access to the TCS Administrator, it is recommended that the TCS Admin icon and User's Guide icon be removed from the desktop of each client machine.

For further assistance in mapping network drives please consult your network administrator.
